Sporty’s Academy is now accepting applications for the 2022 Kroger Aviation Co-Op program (paid) to take place May 23 – June 4, 2022.

Today, The Kroger Co. has more than 2,700 stores that operate across the country under two dozen banners and sales of more than $109.8 billion. Kroger ranks as one of the largest employers in the region and one of the world’s largest retailers.

Supporting this massive retail operation is the Kroger aviation department.  Established in 1952, Kroger’s aviation department flies to destinations that are as numerous as its store locations. The company operates three Challenger 300 aircraft based in Cincinnati.


Kroger is seeking a University of Cincinnati (UC) or Sporty’s Academy student (or flight instructor) to participate in a two-week, PAID co-op position.  The flight operations position will support the goals and mission of the flight department through observation and active participation in department activities in providing safe, secure and quality transportation to the Kroger team.

Minimum Qualifications: Current Sporty’s Academy Flight Instructor or student and possesses at least a Private pilot certification with Instrument Rating.

Applicants must have completed or be in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree and possess an interest in business/corporate aviation.

Availability: May 23– June 4, daily schedule is flexible to allow participants to maintain existing academic, teaching or training obligations.

Pay: $20/hour.


The co-op position is designed to more fully expose participants to the many elements and demands that comprise a corporate flight department. This first-hand exposure to the operating activities, demands, and requirements of a corporate aviation department will directly benefit the participant by providing information that will assist in their career preparation.  Other students and faculty at Sporty’s Academy will also benefit as they receive feedback from experiences in the program via a formal presentation from by the participating instructor during the subsequent semester.

The program will also promote the long-term development of quality individuals who will be outstanding employment candidates for Kroger.

The co-op will offer a valuable opportunity to gain experience and exposure to a vast array of corporate flight department functions to include:

  • Aircraft maintenance
  • Aircraft scheduling
  • Aircraft servicing
  • Aviation safety management
  • Compliance (regulatory and industry (IS-BAO, ARGUS, etc.))
  • Crew scheduling
  • Domestic flight operations
  • Challenger 300 familiarization
  • Flight department administration
  • Flight department manuals
  • Flight planning
  • Flight observations

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed internally and no more than three candidates will be selected to advance in the process.  Kroger will invite finalists to interview for the internship position.
